Those of you who have followed the blog from the start,or perhaps read the early postings,will know that for recording purposes we settle at Betfair Sp if we do not state an early price.
Yesterdays only bet,was one of those where it was difficult to make a call on which way the price was going to go at the time of posting,hence leaving it to bfsp.The horse was priced up around 16/1 early morning,but 25/1 was freely available through the course of the day,and I actually got 1/2 my stake matched at 36 on Betfair,and left the other half to bfsp.I know some of you left messages to say you had taken good prices on betfair or with bookies through the day,which is brilliant.There is no right or wrong way to do it,but we need a standard recording system for fairness to everybody.I personally will often take a price with 1/2 stake and bfsp the rest,because if the price drifts all day bfsp is the best way to go.A prime example of this was Joan of Arc,a horse we backed in August. The best price available on the morning was 12/1,but we felt it may be a drifter,and so left it as a bfsp bet on the blog.The horse did drift,and when it was out to around 20/1,I put my full stake on.The horse won at 28/1 industry SP,which I was paid out at with best odds gauranteed,but Betfair SP was 45.3 which means,had I backed the horse as recommended on the blog,I would have picked up a further 15pts after 5% comm!
